A digital multimedia receiver (DMR) or digital media adapter (DMA) is a home entertainment device that can connect to a home network to retrieve digital media files (such as music, pictures, or video) from a personal computer ( or other media server and play it back on home theater system or TV.
DLNA organization that refers to this device as a digital media renderers (DMR). A digital media receiver can connect to home network,
either using a wireless (IEEE 802.11a, b, g, and n) or wired (Ethernet) connection. DMR includes a user interface that allows users to navigate through their digital media library, search, and playback of media files. Different DMRs designed to handle different tasks.
Some DMRs only deals with music; some handle music and images; some handle music, pictures, and videos; while others go further to allow browsing the Internet or control live TV from a PC with a TV tuner .
Some other capabilities achieved by DMRs include:
* Watch, pause, & record TV
* Play and music CD store and see the album art
* Play, catalog, and store DVD video
* Listen & Pause Digital Radio
* See, storing, and editing digital images
* Create an automatic image slideshows
This includes audio and video media, and the Internet. Other duties multimedia player should be able to include a digital photo display, and recording and playing back audio and video content.
Another question is whether the hard drive big enough to store a collection of movies , or MP3 music files, or photo album. Also, how handy when you use it anywhere, on vacation, or while traveling for business?
For example, can be used as a digital video recorder, and can record from television and other devices . You can play back the video on any television, or on the built-in screen. (Audio can also be played on home or car stereo.)
