Canon Eos XSi or Canon EOS XS?
Hey…Im new to photography, but want to get a pretty good Slr Camera and possibly lens to start out with. The XSi is 650 while the XS is 459…The XSi is 12.2 megapixel has a bigger screen and I think a little more features, while the XS is 10.1 megapixel and has a slighlty smaller screen and a little less features…Which camera would you recommend? and the store that is has the cameras is running a sale, if you buy a canon XS or XSi and get a new lense you get a 100 dolars off…So i guess im asking two questions, what camera whould I get (or other brand), and should I get a new lense??? Thanks a lot.
The XSi (450D) was released a few months before the XS (1000D). Both cameras are almost identical, however, the XSi has a few extra features, making it a slightly better camera. I bought the XSi before the XS was announced and am very happy with it’s performance (for now).
The main differences are…
XSi has an extra 2MP (only a slight gain), but it does have slightly better high ISO capability (less noise) than the XS.
XSi has spot metering (XS does not have it)
9-point AF (XSi) versus 7-point on (XS)
3.5fps (XSi) versus 3.0fps (XS)
3.0″ LCD (XSi) versus 2.5″ LCD (XS)
Proximity sensor (XSi only) This is a cool feature (the LCD screen turns off whenever you put your eye to the viewfinder and then turns on again when you take your eye away.
Infrared remote sensor (XSi only)
I recommend you buy the camera with IS (image stabilized) kit lens only and then think about buying another, better lens later on. For good, sharp image quality, lens choice is very important, so make sure you choose wisely. Ultra cheap (especially on a telephoto lens) is never a good idea.

p.s…Amazon are selling the XSi with kit lens for only US$559 with free shipping, so maybe you need to shop around some more to get a better deal than the one you’re getting now.
