Camera Flash Backwards Compatibility…?
Would my dad’s old Vivitar 1800 flash work with a flash hotshoe on a more modern camera, such as the Canon Rebel T1i? Also, would a newer flash like the Speedlite 270EX work with an older camera, such as a Minolta X-700?

However, they don’t list the 1800. From search on google, it looks like it has a trigger voltage of 35V which is too much for the Rebel. You’ll want the 270′s TTL metering function as it works seamlessly with the Rebel.
Don’t know about the 270 working with other cameras, but I have a sneaking suspicion that it won’t since it doesn’t have a light sensor (none that I can see).
