How are GEL FILTERS used in Movie FILM?
I have recently seen movies made with bluish color or yellow or sometimes green.
I keep wondering if they use gel filters at the time of shooting the movie or if this is done in post production.
Does anyone know where I could learn how is this filtering developed, or used in film?
Is the color added to communicate a mood or a point?
Where is the best place to learn how many kinds of gel filters are there for film?
Can this coloring be accomplished in the post-production of the film?
Is the use of color mood a new trend or has it been out there for a while?

If I’m thinking correctly, Gel filters have been around for quite some time, in one form or another. This technique involves using these colored gels to block part of the visual spectrum, so that the film, which processes red, green, and blue wavelengths, will only process a part of that spectrum, and, in turn, will not use equal amounts of all three colors. You can learn about this by taking a visual color reproduction course through any university, or by going to the library and searching for material on the topic of Principles of Color Reproduction… With today’s technology, I’m sure there are ways to augment the coloring of a film in post-production, although no particular programs come to mind.
