Help with Halogen light fittings?
I am going to purchase a “Halogen 12V MR16, Optimal Colour Replication” Light.
It says it “Fits in any 12V-20W/35W/50W low voltage halogen light (reflector)”
and it says “Standard MR16 – socket. Also known as GU (GX) 5,3 or QRCBC 50/51″
I have absolutely no knowledge about halogen lights, light fittings etc.
What do I need to buy to plug this in too?
How does it work? Do I plug it (the thing I plug the light in too) in too the wall power point?
Thank you for any information. I have no idea what I am doing, I just want a full spectrum light, and anything else I need to make it run!!
The easiest thing to do is take those specifications to your electrical wholesaler and ask for a suitable fitting and regulations on installation. You may or may not be allowed to install yourself depending on local laws. If you have any doubt use the services of an electrician.
The fitting you describe however is very very common. From a hardware store, or lighting store, you could probably purchase one with a transformer that you plug into a wall socket. It depends on where and how you want to mount it. If it’s for a desk, then find a ready made one for the desk and swap the globe. I assume you want that particular one for the color temperature etc.
