Is my new DDR module faulty?
My new 1GB DDR module won’t work.
There are 2 slots in the MS-6580 845PE motherboard, one already with 512MB of PC2700 333mhz ram. [The board takes a maximum 2GB RAM, 1GB per slot.] The new ram is also PC2700 [which I believe to be 333mhz?]
I am confident the 184 pin module fits correctly and was inserted with necessary firmness, taking anti-static precautions with an anti-static wristband used.
The computer works fine when I revert to original memory module. Could my new module be faulty?

In answer to MRX 6905; the motherboard manual says “Memory modules can be installed in any combination” and makes no suggestion that unbalanced modules will compromise the larger module. I have heard this said before however.. I have tried the new module on its own. Computer starts briefly, then stops, then starts, but the monitor reports “no signal.” There are no beeps. Interpretations welcome!
Could be. I’d try it in another computer or maybe take it to your local computer shop and see if they can try it in one of their computers. If it still doesn’t work, just send it back and get a replacement.
