Brand New Nikon D5100 Digital Slr Camera First Glance

More and more folk are getting into digital SLR cameras mostly because the quality over a small aim and shoot is so much greater. It used to be at least $1000 to buy a low end DSLR, but now you can get a High Quality camera from Canon, Sony or Nikon for example for a bit less than $1000 simply. The Nikon D5100 is directed at the lower-mid end of the spectrum, and looks like it’s going to be exceedingly popular.

The D5100 comes with many great features crammed into it, it’s hard to believe it’s less than $1000 complete with an 18-55mm lens. Some of the features include a 16.2MP CMOS sensor, a large three inch moveable viewscreen, built-in HDR and High Definitiion video with continuous auto-focusing!

The D5100 works alongside all available Nikkor lenses, but can autofocus only with AF-S and AF-I lenses as it does not contain an AF motor inside the body. This shouldn’t ever pose a challenge, just make absolutely sure that you buy this kind of lens when upgrading.

The HD movie capability includes constant Auto Focus, which is truly incredible when you consider it. This is a Dslr Camera, and it can be used as a video recorder as well… Extremely cool. Yes several DSLRs can record video, and even HD; but can those cameras autofocus when shooting video or do you have to do it by hand? Make sure you find out before you buy!

HDR is incredible, but I have been having a difficult time getting it to work with my point and shoot camera. In-camera HDR does all the work for you! 2 bracketed exposures are taken back to back, and then the camera combines them into a single HDR image that shows enhanced details from shade and highlights. These shots often look extraordinary and truly give a ‘WOW!’ factor to your photos.

Many folks are resolution crazy…. Just because one camera has a higher megapixel ( MP ) count doesn’t imply it’s better. Please remember this when looking for a new DSLR.

Image resolution means the maximum size possible; for this camera it’s 16.2 MP ( million pixels, or thousands of pixels ) or 4928 x 3264. That could be a GIGANTIC image! If you post an image online, generally it’s only about 400 x 300 ; and the size of your whole desktop on your P. C is maybe about 1024 x 768. So what this means is that the photos taken by this camera at max resolution are about 4 times bigger than you can see at a hundred percent on your computer screen!

Please remember that a bigger image doesn’t automatically mean a better image. If you’ve got a crummy camera with a bad lens however it takes massive photos it doesn’t mean they are good.

Image quality on the Nikon D5100 thankfully is fantastic. Nikon works at keeping shopper level camera quality high so they can battle with Canon and Sony in the ever expanding marketplace. No-one wants to put out a bad quality $900 camera, that’s for sure.

Is the Nikon D5100 worth buying? Yes, it is! The camera has such a great listing of attributes, quality lenses, and is easy to just pick up and use. Nowadays I find myself advocating Nikon DSLRs over Canon and Sony, and I see no reason to not give the D5100 a big thumbs up also. If you’re ever wanting Nikon camera repair or perhaps digital camera repair then a quick Google search or 2 and you need to find precisely what you need.
