Which Brand? 18-200mm lens?
I’m at a loss about what to do. I have a Nikon D90 and a 15-85mm lens and a 70-300mm lens. I feel like one doesn’t give me enough range and the other is too much. I have been looking at a Nikon 18-200mm vr lens but it costs a bit to much for me. I was wondering how quality and price compares with the Nikon, Sigma, and Tamron versions of the 18-200mm lens. Are you planning to use D90 for a long long time ?
If yes, buy the Nikkor 18-200 VR, it’s a good all-time lens and helps reduce lens change (preventing dust problems). The optical quality is superior to other lenses in the same category (Sigma, Tamron etc..) but is inferior to the lower Nikkor that you have. It’s sharper than the 70-300 though.
If you are planning to shift to a full frame SLR in future, it’ll be a waste of money buying any lens made for crop sensor and in that case, I suggest not buying any lens at present or buying a 28-200 or similar lens which you can use properly in a full frame SLR. If you still want to buy a full range lens (starting from 18mm) then opt for a used lens and save your money.
