how do professionals do pictures?
I am planning on trying to do some professional looking pictures, of babies, maternity etc. I plan to use natural light only…I plan to use a 50mm f/1.8 d lense with a fuji s3 pro Slr Camera is this going to be good enough for professional looking pictures?. I was wondering how I would be able to make the pictues look more professional, Like how do I get my backgrounds to be either super bright white or black ? I have seen how photographers set up and they use a piece of fabric but the results look so much better in the proofs is this because of photoshop ? also like the pictures of the baby in mom or dads hands and all the rest is black.

You shouldn’t limit yourself right off the bat. A good photographer uses everthing and anything he needs to, to get the shot he wants. If that means using manual flashes on tripodes with barn dorrs, then that’s what he’ll use.
You cannot acheive this effect with only natural light:
Same with pure white backgrounds, you need to throw extra light at the background. A good, pure white (aka High Key), shot involves 3 lights, umbrellas, softboxes, dividers …
Baby pictures can certainly work with only natural light … if you have any of course.
Don’t limit yourself, use what works for the shot you want.
