Seagull Syk

Flash slaves and the fz18?

I have the fz18, Very Good camera unfortunately no hot shoe.

Im not sure how to user and or operate a flash slave as yet.
If i got something like a seagull syk flash reciever and connect it to a flash, would the seagull detect the flash of the fz18 thus firing the External Flash connected to the seagull?
